Kidney Stones Symptoms

The location of kidney stone pain can vary from kidney pain in the mid to lower back, to pain in the inguinal area, the side of the lower abdomen, or the central lower abdomen in the bladder area. Symptoms of kidney stones are almost unmistakable, as they involve pain that is so sharp and intense they have been compared to the pain of childbirth. Stones in the kidney, the urinary tract, or the bladder only cause pain when they are moving. When kidney stones are stationary, there is little or no pain at all.

Causes of Kidney Stones According to Traditional Chinese Medicine

Kidney stones appear as a result of accumulation.  Kidney stones are called accumulations.

Accumulations are a consequence of poor flow and dietary excess.

Kidney stones can be composed of calcium, oxylates, or uric acid crystals. Treatment of kidney stones will vary according to the composition of the stone.

Acupuncture and acupressure can be helpful in getting kidney stones to move.

Lysmachia, jin qian cao, "gold coin herb" is the principal herb used to dissolve kidney stones.

Kidney Stone Tea

A kidney stone tea can be made by boiling 1-2 ounces of jin qian cao in 2 quarts of water for 30-40 minutes to make 2 cups of kidney stone tea.

TREATMENT OF KIDNEY STONES

WITH CHINESE MEDICINE

Small to mid size stones in the kidney can be treated witk acupuncture and dissolved with Chinese medicine. Large kidney stones must be removed surgically. It is recommended that kidney stones be saved and analyzed after they are passed. Analysis of the stone and subsequent treatment may prevent reoccurance of kidney stones.

Kidney stones cotaining oxalic acid are treated by restricting intake of foods high in oxilates.  Rhubarb, spinach, strawberries, chocolate, wheat bran, nuts, beets, and tea have been shown to be most at fault for raising urine oxalate levels.

Kidney stones high in calcium indicate that calcium is being leeched from the bones, according to traditionall Chinese medicine.  This is called Kidney Deficiency, and requires the use of herbal Kidney Tonics such as Liu Wei Di Huang to stregnthen the kidneys.  The herbal medicine Shi Lin Tong is used to dissolve the stones.

Kidney stones high in uric acid are likely caused by too much meat in the diet. To prevent the occurance or reoccurance of these kind of kidney stones, a low protein diet is recommended.
